Diskwento Caravan rolls out to help consumers cope - INQUIRER.net, Philippine News for Filipinos: "Mark downs up to 70%

The Diskwento Caravan offers basic products such as generic medicine, bread, sardines, cooking oil, processed meat, fruits, vegetables, detergent bars and school supplies that their manufacturers sell at discounted prices.

The caravan is hosted at city or municipal halls, under the supervision of the mayors.

For consumers wanting to get more value for their peso, product prices are marked down by as much as 70 percent.

Trade Undersecretary Merly Cruz said the DTI coordinated closely with its regional and provincial offices to ensure that the items sold were really needed by the local residents.

Aside from selling discounted products, Cruz said the caravan would also serve as the venue for training activities and job fairs, PC for public schools launches, and tourism and One Town One Product program promotions. Loan checks for qualified micro, small and medium enterprises could also be presented to borrowers here."
