"TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte, May 27 (PIA)--Eastern Visayas is set to commemorate the World Environment Day on June 5 and Philippine Environment Month in June, with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) as lead agency.
Regional Executive Director Primitivo C. Galinato Jr. of DENR 8 informed that since June 5 falls on a Sunday, the observance of the World Environment Day will be on June 6, 2011.
According to Galinato, the theme for this year’s celebration is “Forests: Nature at your Service,” which underscores the intrinsic link between quality of life and the health of forests and forest ecosystems. The theme also supports this year's UN International Year of Forests.
The June 6 commemoration will start at 7:30 in the morning with the Holy Mass at the DENR Regional Office and as a kick off activity, a foot parade around the City of Tacloban will be conducted before the environment program, RED Galinato added."
